David has excellent knowledge of tree assessment and planning issues, complemented by effective communication skills.

In May 2010, David was appointed Acting Commissioner of the NSW Land and Environment Court and continues to arbitrate tree disputes in that jurisdiction.

David has lectured at universities in Australia and Hong Kong on several arboricultural subjects, including Trees and the Law, Tree Protection, Tree Assessment, Tree Valuation and Tree Pruning.

David has assessed Heritage Trees using his detailed knowledge of the National Trust (Victoria) guidelines for determining the significance of trees.

As a valued consultant to several councils, David regularly assesses trees in relation to planning issues. He also attends VCAT as an expert witness for councils and other parties involved in these issues. David is also experienced in liaising and communicating with community groups on behalf of councils.

David has served as a board member of the International Society of Arboriculture – Australia Chapter (ISAAC). He was ISAAC’s representative on Standards Australia’s EV–018: Arboriculture committee, which develops standards for hazard tree assessment, protecting trees on development sites and tree valuation.
